Met Gala 2019

The Oscars Of The Fashion World

The Met Gala is a spectacle of fantastic fashion, best known for its exclusive guest list, expensive tickets (averaging $30,000 per person), and outrageous outfits worn by stars and icons of industry.

The Met Gala is also marked by its annual theme. This year the theme is Camp: Notes on Fashion, inspired by a 1964 essay “Notes on Camp” penned by political activist and American writer Susan Sontag; which will be the premise of an upcoming exhibit late this year.

The Outfits

Lady Gaga who co-hosted the event also stole the show from its commencement sporting a billowing pink outfit; which was one of four looks she featured…all before even entering the actual venue!

This year’s event marks the 71st anniversary was co-chaired by Alessandro Michele, Harry Styles, and Serena Williams. The list of celebrities who host the event changes almost every year, so that the event stays fresh. The substantive chairperson is editor-in-chief of US Vogue Anna Wintour, who is responsible for enlisting these celebs.

The guest list is comprised of 48% actors, 32% from the fashion world, and the remainder was made up of a mix of sporting and media personalities. It takes place the first Monday of May every year at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, thus the name Met.

So if you are like most people and can’t cop the $30,000 ticket, you keep reading for a fly on the wall description of the event. The night starts with a cocktail hour, featuring a high-profile red carpet segment with a review of the upcoming exhibition. This is followed by dinner and a round of entertainment; this year courtesy of Cher. There was an eclectic blend of fashion styles. I would be remiss if i did not mention the tribute to the late Karl Lagerfeld.

Here is a gallery of some of the more outrageous outfits from the Met Gala 2019.
